A good new home contractor will help you think through the features of your new home, including needs and wants, essentials and luxuries.

Along the way you will get to choose some upgrades (depending on your budget), so here are some popular new home upgrade ideas to help you in the home building process.

Walk-In Shower

There was a time when the standard American home had one bathroom, and within that bathroom there was one bathtub/shower combo. Today’s homes often have two or more bathrooms, and homebuyers frequently choose to separate out the shower and tub for the best of both worlds. More on the tub in a minute, but a hot item that many choose as a new home upgrade is a large walk-in shower.

Oftentimes these showers have no door, but rather are partially open to the rest of the bathroom. A popular luxurious feature of walk-in showers are multiple jets and a rainfall showerhead.

Soaking Tub

If your idea of a relaxing evening includes a soak in the tub, consider a large and comfortable soaking tub.

Quartz Countertops

Quartz countertops have become a popular choice in today’s new home market. According to McKee Homes,

“Quartz countertops are man-made from crushed quartz, pigment and resin. The pigment allows for a more consistent coloration with a wider array of colors than granite. Quartz does not require the level of care that granite does, such as needing to be sealed, and is better at resisting stains from spills. However, quartz can be damaged from hot pans being placed directly on the countertop.”

When choosing a countertop material, consider the pros and cons of each type. If you choose quartz there’s no denying it will add beauty to any kitchen.

Large Kitchen Islands

This feature will depend on your house plan of course, but consider the use and utility you may get from a larger than normal kitchen island.

Upgraded Front Door

One of the first things you’ll notice when driving by a house or walking up to it is the front door. A standard front door that’s simply painted a solid color may do the trick for keeping a barrier from the outside, but an upgraded door can add style and detail to your home.

There are truly beautiful front door options available that can give your home a stunning curbside appeal, and they are not all going to be extremely expensive. Your contractor can help you find the right door at the right price.
