Video Features Straightforward Plumbing Tips
The Experts In Your Home plumbing safety check video targets four places around your home that warrant special attention: the kitchen, laundry room, bathroom and outdoor hose. The video recommends that homeowners take the following steps to safeguard their homes:
- In the kitchen: Check for three key danger signs under the sink: evidence of leaks, including discolored wood and especially puddling water; unbraided piping, which is potentially dangerous because it could bubble and pop (your pipes should be braided stainless steel); and old valves. A simple way to discern an “old” valve: yours should be a quarter-turn valve. If not, it's an older valve with a great potential for failure.
- In the laundry room: Look for old twist valves and rubber hoses, which could pierce and rupture. Again, you want a braided hose because it won't bulge and potentially rupture.
- In the bathroom: Inspect the valves under the sink and near the toilet carefully. The valves should be quarter-turn and well sealed with tape, and the pipes should be braided and made of stainless steel.
- Outdoor pipe: Here's where it might be easiest of all to spot “valve trouble” because you might see moss gathering on or around the valve. This is a sure sign of a leak, so call the Experts so that we can prevent water damage from wreaking havoc both outside and inside your home.
